Thank you to everyone who has joined us for the first four events of B4C's BioBlitz October, supported by a Transurban Community Grant.
Minnippi Bird Walk and BioBlitz – Saturday 10 October
We kicked off bright and early at Minnippi Parklands with a guided bird walk led by ecologist and bird enthusiast Deb Metters.
At 9:30 am, we regrouped for the main Minnippi BioBlitz, exploring and recording the wonderful biodiversity of the area.
One morning | 40+ participants | 760 observations | 290 species | 55+ bird species
Across the two events, participants recorded an impressive 760 observations and 290 species on iNaturalist, along with more than 55 bird species on eBird.
A special thank you to the Queensland Naturalists' Club, particularly Doug, Greg and Annie, Michelle from BugsEd, and Jutta from the Brisbane Big Butterfly Count for generously sharing their time and expertise.
Belmont Hills Spotlighting – Wednesday 14 October
Our evening spotlighting walk added another 32 observations and 11 species to our BioBlitz records.
Thank you to Josh Bowell from the Yellow-bellied Glider Project and iNaturalist ambassador Vincent Watego for guiding us through the reserve and sharing their knowledge of nocturnal wildlife.
Minnippi Night Frog Walk – Wednesday 28 October
Our most recent event was a night frog walk with Brett Malcolm from Brett Finds Frogs.
While we're still uploading observations, we recorded five frog species and were excited to spot more squirrel gliders!
Two More Events to Come!
Unfortunately, our Belmont Hills Bird Walk and daytime BioBlitz were postponed due to wet weather and slippery conditions.
We're looking forward to holding both events on their rescheduled dates and would love to see you there!
