B4C’s Native Plant Nursery is a vibrant community-run nursery that specialises in propagating local native plants predominately for local bush regeneration projects.  Our Native Plant Nursery forms part of our Sustainability Centre & Community Garden.

Our nursery consists of two distinct sections:

  • Brisbane City Council Free Native Plants Program

  • B4C Local Native Plant Nursery (note: the nursery is not open to the public)

Brisbane City Council Free Native Plants Program

B4C’s nursery is a proud participant in Brisbane City Council’s Free Native Plants Program. This initiative allows Brisbane residents to collect two free native plants each financial year (July–June). To receive your free plants, follow these steps:

  1. Get your voucher: Visit your local BCC Councillor’s office or any Brisbane City Council library with your current rates notice. Council staff will verify your address and give you a voucher for two free native plants (one allocation per household per year).

  2. Collect your plants: Bring your voucher (not the rates notice) to the B4C Native Plant Nursery – or any other participating community nursery – to redeem your two free native plants. Our staff and volunteers will be happy to help you choose plants suited to your garden.

B4C Local Native Plant Nursery

Our Local Native Plant Nursery at the B4C Sustainability Centre specialises in growing plants endemic to Bulimba Creek Catchment and our local Reginal Ecosystems. The nursery is run entirely by dedicated volunteers, who propagate a variety of native seedlings to support community bushcare and revegetation projects. We also make these plants available (in tubestock and pots) for B4C members to purchase for their own gardens. Here are some key points about our nursery:

  • Volunteer days: Nursery volunteers meet every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday morning to tend to the plants. New helpers are always welcome – it’s a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and give back to the community.

  • Learn propagation & horticulture: Volunteering at the nursery is a hands-on learning experience. You can pick up skills in seed collecting, plant propagation, potting up seedlings, watering and fertilizing, weed control, and general plant care – all while working alongside a friendly team.

  • Members-only plant sales: Native plant sales are available to B4C members only. By becoming a member, you gain access to purchase affordable local native plants (Not a member yet? See how to join here!)

  • Supporting bushcare projects: Many of the plants we grow are used in B4C’s bushcare and habitat restoration projects around the Bulimba Creek catchment.

  • Seasonal availability: Please note that during busy planting seasons, some plant species may be in limited supply. A lot of our stock gets allocated to important revegetation projects at certain times of year, so if the plant you’re after is unavailable, we appreciate your understanding and patience.
