Minnippi Creek Wildlife Corridor Bushcare

Help restore an important wildlife corridor along Minnippi Creek in Carina.The Minnippi Creek Wildlife Corridor Bushcare Group is made up of local residents working to restore bushland along Minnippi Creek and improve habitat and movement opportunities for native wildlife.The site extends from the park at the corner of Darcy Road and Todman Street, along the creek beside Todman Street, to the western end of Rembrandt Street Park.

Caring for a Wildlife Corridor

Despite surrounding roads and urban development, the area supports a range of native wildlife. Koala scratches have been recorded on eucalypts beside the creek, with koalas occasionally sighted in the reserve. Gliders, microbats, turtles, rails, water dragons and wood ducks have also been recorded in or around the area.Restoring vegetation along the creek helps provide safer habitat and improves connectivity for wildlife moving through the local landscape.

Join the Bushcare Group

When: Second Sunday of each month
Time: 8:00am–10:00am

The group takes a break during December and January. Working bees alternate between two locations:

Even months – February, April, June, August and October: Meet at the corner of Todman Street and Darcy Road.

Odd months – March, May, July, September and November: Meet near the mail collection box near Dorking Street.

What Volunteers Do

Bushcare activities include:Removing and treating invasive weedsPlanting native vegetationMulching and compostingErosion controlMonitoring local biodiversityCaring for and restoring native habitatNo previous Bushcare experience is required. Volunteers can learn plant identification, tool use and bush regeneration techniques while working alongside other local volunteers.B4C provides tools, materials, first aid supplies and insurance. Covered shoes, a long-sleeved shirt and a hat are recommended.
