Wetland Rehabilitation

B4C’s Landscape Services Team has extensive experience in the rehabilitation and management of freshwater, estuarine and constructed wetlands across South East Queensland.

Our team undertakes wetland rehabilitation from initial weed management and site preparation through to revegetation, erosion control, and ongoing maintenance. B4C also has specialist experience in mangrove and saltmarsh restoration, a capability offered by relatively few environmental rehabilitation organisations in South East Queensland.

Our Experience

Bulimba Creek Oxbow Wetlands, Murarrie
B4C has been involved in the rehabilitation of the Bulimba Creek Oxbow for more than two decades. Works have included restoration of tidal wetlands, mangroves and saltmarsh, weed control, revegetation, habitat improvement and ongoing management. Rehabilitation has also included works to improve tidal connectivity between the Oxbow and Bulimba Creek, supporting fish habitat and the recovery of estuarine vegetation communities.

Whyte Island, Port of Brisbane
Within the internationally significant Moreton Bay Ramsar Wetland, B4C has undertaken large-scale rehabilitation across saltmarsh, mangrove, supratidal grassland, shrubland and dry forest communities. Since 2023, more than 13,000 native plants have been established across more than seven hectares, alongside targeted weed control, removal of mature Broadleaf Pepper, habitat enhancement and ecological monitoring.

Lucinda Lake, Port of Brisbane
B4C has undertaken ongoing rehabilitation and water quality improvement works at Lucinda Lake. Works have included revegetation and buffer planting, bank stabilisation and the installation of floating wetlands to help address elevated nutrient levels. The floating wetlands have also provided habitat for waterbirds, including nesting habitat.

Wetlands and waterways across Brisbane
B4C has delivered rehabilitation works across numerous other wetland and waterway sites, including Doboy Wetlands, Tingalpa Wetlands, Metroplex Wetlands and Gibson Island, as well as riparian and wetland areas throughout the Bulimba Creek catchment.

Mangrove and Saltmarsh Restoration

Mangrove and saltmarsh environments require specialised rehabilitation methods that respond to tidal conditions, hydrology, sediment movement, salinity and natural regeneration.

B4C is one of a limited number of environmental rehabilitation organisations in South East Queensland with practical experience working in these sensitive intertidal environments. Our team has undertaken mangrove and saltmarsh restoration, weed management and habitat rehabilitation at estuarine sites including the Bulimba Creek Oxbow, Whyte Island and Gibson Island.
