We at Whites Hill-Pine Mountain Community Group Inc. are a non-profit and non-political community organisation. We are the local community assisting the Brisbane City Council in developing a long-term management plan for the Whites Hill area and the surrounding linkages to Bulimba Creek. We are dedicated to looking after the natural environment, especially the Whites Hill, Pine Mountain, and Sankeys Mountain areas in the southern suburbs of Brisbane City. We have a close working relationship with B4C (Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee) and with N4C (Norman Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee), as we all have a common cause, which is care for our environment.

Our Mission Statement and Objectives
1. The object of the group is to represent residents and other interested groups of the local area in the
  future planning for conservation and management of the Whites Hill-Pine Mountain reserves
  (between Boundary Road and Pine Mountain Road) and adjacent areas, for sport, recreation, flora,
  fauna and other associated projects.
2. To submit advice to Brisbane City Council for proposed use and management planning
3. To publish, print and circulate leaflets and papers that may be conductive of the aims and objects
  of the group
4. To seek partnerships and sponsors to resource our projects

How You Can Get Involved
Check our events page to find out about the many activities we organise to promote public awareness of our native habitats, including regular nature-based recreation activities such as Walking for Pleasure with Pat, our monthly social walks; Walk on the Wildside walks; and Nightjar's Spotlighting Tour, our guided nocturnal walks.
We also conduct regular Bushcare activities, including monthly Threatened Species Working Bees at 5 sites in Whites Hill Reserve, and Phillips Creek Bushcare Days.

Educating the Community
The Whites Hill-Pine Mountain Community Group Inc. offers the services of its Schools' Environment Sub-Committee to assist local schools, pre-schools or kindergartens with nature-based activities. We can do education awareness presentations for your school on threatened species. With the class we examine a nominated threatened plant or animal species, identify its habitat and discuss the ecosystem which it is part of. We can also focus an educational talks on ecosystems in general, drawing examples from our region. Our "Whites Hill Mystery A Tail of Murder" can be used in a threatened species presentation, accompanied by OHP pictures or acted out as a play.
 
Catchment Presentation including a hands-on game. This presentation uses Bulimba Creek catchment as a case study. We take the class through a look into the area's natural environment, natural assets, land use, threatening processes, and community involvement through waterways projects, tree plantings, water testing and building habitat. We also look at key conservation strategies such as linking green spaces thru green vegetation corridors, with an example being the work to protect the Flinders Peak-to-Bay Island corridor.
We also conduct propagation workshops in our Backyard to Bush program for schools. In a hands-on project, the class is taken through growing native plants from seed, including potting on and planting out.(*) An area in the Whites Hill Reserve can be selected for the class for a Bush Regeneration project, with our group maintaining their special area for them after their seedlings have been planted out.

Other environment-oriented activities we can provide include:

Patricia Powell, our Walk for Pleasure guide, will lead students accompanied by teachers or parents on a Special Guided Walk into the Whites Hill Reserve. Pat will arrange the walk to suit their needs and ages and conduct it during school hours.
 
Animal and Biodiversity Displays for your fetes or special days at the school.
We are willing to tailor any support you would like to your school's needs. We would also be pleased to conduct presentations or programs similar to those above for your local community group. (*) Please note that we are a non-profit volunteer organisation and very much appreciate help with covering the costs of plants, pots, soil and fertiliser used by the students undertaking the Backyard to Bush project.
