SCRUB is a small but active community group whose aims are
to protect and improve the local bushland and assist and educate
others in bushland care. We like to concentrate our efforts on on-
ground work, and there are usually twelve or fifteen people at each
working bee. It is amazing how much is achieved in two hours per
month when the volunteers are as keen as our members. Anyone
is welcome to join us on any or all of these sites along Bulimba Creek.
Sankeys Scrub is part of Pine Mountain Reserve, near Boral Quarry along Pine Mountain Road, Mt Gravatt East (UBD Map 181 F12). This is a valuable remnant of some rare species of flora. Sankeys Scrub is a "Regional Ecosystem" described as notophyll rainforest on metamorphosed sediments. A long-term restoration plan is in place for the future protection of the remnant. The coordinator here is John Evans, phone (07) 3349-3550.
Wisteria Bushcare Group is maintaining the creek corridor from Bevan Street to Cavendish Road in Mt Gravatt East. This green corridor has been replanted and is now in a maintenance phase. The co-ordinator is John Evans phone (07) 3849 3550.
Belmont Hills Conservation Group is working to eradicate invasive vine weeds which smother the richly diverse existing flora on private conservation property. This is a large property which has regionally significant vegetation. This group also works along Spring Creek to regenerate the riparian zone which protects the creek and its significant wildlife. The co-ordinator is Nancy Cramond.
Ekibin Creek Bushcare Group works to improve very degraded bushland along Ekibin Creek from the roundabout on Gaza Road to the SE Freeway at Holland Park. The co-ordinator is Sue Akeroyd phone (07) 3349 8378.
The following is a link that provides bushcare dates for February to September 2010, however it is advisable to contact the coordinators for information on the next working bees in case changes are made due to weather etc.
