Powerlink Queensland is a State government-owned corporation that owns, develops and operates Queensland’s high voltage electricity transmission network to world class standards. Powerlink’s $4.6 billion network extends 1,700 kilometres from north of Cairns to the New South Wales border – approximately half of Australia’s eastern seaboard.
Powerlink’s primary role is to provide a secure and reliable network to transport high-voltage electricity from power stations to the electricity distribution networks owned by ENERGEX, Ergon Energy, and Country Energy. Powerlink also transports electricity directly to large Queensland customers, such as aluminium smelters and Queensland Rail, and to New South Wales via the QLD/NSW Interconnector.
In providing a reliable and secure electricity supply across Queensland, Powerlink is committed to responsible environmental management, open communication and consultation with landowners and local communities, and making a positive contribution to the communities in which it operates.
Powerlink has been supporting B4C’s efforts to protect and enhance the urban environment within the Bulimba Creek catchment since 2002 through projects including the rehabilitation of the Bulimba Creek Oxbow, establishment of the Sustainability Centre, enhancement of the ecological sustainability of the Minnippi Parklands, and various minor revegetation projects.
