The Thin Green Line is Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee's philosophy.
It symbolises the Bulimba Creek corridor and the links from it to our bushland reserves like those at Whites Hill Reserve, Mt Gravatt, Belmont Hills and Minnippi Parklands.
It also stands for the links between people and their natural environment.
These differing links may be thin, but they are strong and we must protect and strengthen them.
Unlike our larger capital cities, Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane actually has natural environments within its suburbs. What we haven't got is adequate protection for these precious urban greenspaces.
Brisbane city has only 19% of publicly owned green space. This compares to 43% for Sydney and 30% for Hongkong for instance. This makes catchment care and green space protection all the more important for the city of Brisbane.
A large proportion of our bushlands are held in private ownership, and a fast-growing population will consume much of them. That's why Council and Stateowned bushlands and creek corridors are going to be so precious to us in the future.
The bushlands you hold are important future assets that our community needs and will fight to protect. They are more valuable than a fist full of dollars or revenue for football stadiums.
