The Hills are Alive - Mountain bike Threat - 1st Nov, 06

Nature reserves in Brisbane are our most precious bushland remnants.  They are protected with Conservation Zoning under City Plan and are the community’s jewels in the Crown for preserving our native wildlife and plants.  These included many Threatened Species.  In our Catchment we are blessed with Karawatha Forest, Mt Gravatt Outlook, Toohey Forest, Belmont Hills, Mt Petrie (Koala Bushlands), Whites Hill Reserve, Oats Hill Reserve and Seven Hills – all mountains and hills.

Brisbane's Nature Reserves - Current Issues - 1st Nov, 06

Firstly, we should define Natural Area. First tier - the City’s Nature Reserves (examples – Boondall Wetlands, Tinchi Tamba Wetlands, Bayside Parklands, Toohey Forest, Mt Gravatt Outlook, Mt Cootha, Karawatha, Koala Bushlands, Whites Hill, Belmont Hills, Minnippi Parklands. 2nd tier – new areas, some to be dedicated – Poo Corner,  Larapinta/Parkinson South, Fitzgibbon, Doolandella, etc. Third tier – smaller reserves – Mansfield Conservation, Seven Hills Reserve, Oates Hill, Runcorn Wetlands.

Start from the Ground Up … Keep your soil in good condition by the addition of lots of organic matter such as manure and compost.  This will improve and enrich the structure of your soil as well as encouraging beneficial micro-organisms and earthworms.
