Throughout 2007 to 2010, B4C facilitated a ‘Dream River’ project,
partnering Bulimba Creek catchment with Loire River catchment
in France, the Gregory River catchment in the Gulf of Carpentaria, the
Trang catchment in Southern Thailand, and starting in 2010, the Ebro catchmnent in Spain. This project encouraged children to reconnect with
their watersheds, developing an understanding of waterway health and expressing these learnings and connections through art. It further educates
students about the importance of restoring the environment,
especially rivers, as the artery of communities.
The Dream River project was born out of Twinning partnerships, and B4C’s recognition of the immense value that this has for children and communities which have been involved. Twelve schools participated in the project from 2007 to 2008, with students from each school producing a piece of artwork which envisaged their ‘dream river’ of the future. In 2009, 14 schools from 4 different regions in 3 different countries participated.
Outcomes for this project have been: 2011 Twinning tour, with a B4C representative visiting Gregory and Burketown in the Gulf of Queensland to refurbish school vegetable gardens and support a community oval planting in the Gregory.2011 Dream River Calendar - available now2010 Dream River Calendar - download here
