Community Gardens

B4C is establishing a community garden at the Southside Sustainability Centre. This has been an exciting project, with no-dig beds, orchards and vegie patches all coming to life over the last 18 months. Our thanks go to Landcare Australia and Holden for supporting us in this venture.

How the gardens grow
Our first batch of rosellas was made into Rosella Jam in 2009, much to the delight of volunteers and visitors, while our chickens are producing prolifically with eggs quite a hit at $2/half dozen for garden workers. With spring here, the gardens are now being dug over in preparation for a new season of tomatoes, eggplants, passionfruit and more.

Volunteering in the gardens
These gardens are open to anyone in the community who would like to come and dig their hands in the soil. Current gardening and nursery days are Tuesday, Friday morning, and the first Saturday morning of each month. Please contact our office for more information on 3420 4800.
