Who We Are:
SCRUB is a small but active community group whose aims are to protect and improve the local bushland and assist and educate others in bushland care. We like to concentrate our efforts on on-ground work, and there are usually twelve or fifteen people at each working bee. It is amazing how much is achieved in two hours per month when the volunteers are as keen as our members. Anyone is welcome to join us on any or all of these sites along Bulimba Creek.
Where We Work:
Sankeys Scrub is part of Pine Mountain Reserve, near Boral Quarry along Pine Mountain Road, Mt Gravatt East (UBD Map 181 F12). This is a valuable remnant of some rare species of flora. Sankeys Scrub is a "Regional Ecosystem" described as notophyll rainforest on metamorphosed sediments. A long-term restoration plan is in place for the future protection of the remnant. The coordinator here is John Evans, phone (07) 3349-3550.
Lambertia Creek Bushcare Group works along Lambertia Creek, a tributary of Bulimba Creek at Mt Gravatt East. The group meets at Lambertia Close (UBD Map 181 J13) and aims to create a riparian planting along the creek to stabilize the banks and improve water quality and wildlife habitat. The coordinator here is Bruce Boundy, phone (07) 3344-8057.
Wisteria Park Bushcare Group works further upstream on Lambertia Creek. This group meets at Wisteria Crescent (UBD Map 181 H15), Mt Gravatt East. A valuable green corridor is being created along this creek with the two bushcare groups working along the same creek. The coordinator is Peter Gregory, phone (07) 3349-1390.
Belmont Hills/Spring Creek Bushcare Group is attempting to eradicate weeds, regenerate existing flora and protect the bushland which contains areas of threatened and regionally significant flora and fauna. It encompasses both public and private conservation properties. The coordinator is Jonathan Brett, phone (07) 3398-2732.
Bulimba Creek Environmental Group works along Bulimba Creek at Carindale between Rainsby Court and Eromanga Street (UBD Map 181 Q9 & 10). This is a real bird haven where we are removing weeds and replanting with native plants to improve fauna habitat. The photos below show what can be achieved in eighteen months. Sheryl Keates is the coordinator for this group, phone (07) 3398-4898.
The groups usually meet monthly, but dates vary, so please contact the coordinators for information on the next working bees.
