Everyone knows South East Queensland is blessed with some of the country's most beautiful natural features. Outside the city there's the beaches, the bay, the mountains and forests.
What many of us don't know, is the city is also a haven for environmental treasures, often hidden and sadly sometimes neglected.
Bulimba Creek Catchment is one of the largest in Brisbane, and home for more than 120,00 people. It's a delicate balance of waterways, green spaces and urban and industrial growth. In a perfect world these elements would blend and function together in a sustainable way. But we all know this simply doesn't happen, and within this area, there's some very serious environmental challenges.
Fortunately, someone has recognised this and is doing something about it. The Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee is one of the best examples I've seen of making a huge difference in your own back yard. Since 1997 they have shown what a group of mostly volunteer workers can achieve, and have grown significantly.
They now work with a range of partners, supporters and stakeholders and continue to produce some outstanding results.
As Patron, I'm delighted to be able to support this group in their many endeavours, including the Bulimba Creek Environment Fund, and look forward to the huge difference they'll continue to make to their local environment. |
