MoU between Yadfon (Thailand) and B4C (Australia)

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

 

BETWEEN

 

Bulimba Creek Catchment

Coordinating Committee Inc.              AND             Yadfon Association

 

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia                                                  Trang, Thailand

 

“OVER THE HORIZON PROJECT”

 

Purpose:

To create environmental and cultural awareness and improve catchment management by involving schools and educational bodies along with both catchment associations through education and research and sharing expertise.

 

Problems:

  • Cultural and language unfamiliarity and lack of understanding.
  • Both catchment authorities existing  substantial workloads.
  • Geographical locations.
  • Uncertain future funding options and budget.

 

Scope:

The geographical areas of the project are the Trang and Palian River Catchments, Trang Southern Thailand and southern catchment areas of Brisbane including Bulimba Creek Catchment, Queensland Australia.

 

Agreement, Understanding:

  1. To create understanding of communities, environment (catchment based ecology) through Action Research.
  2. To actively rehabilitate and protect the natural ecology of catchments, rivers, wetlands, floodplains and their various ecosystems.
  3. Green English (combining English Language teaching and environment – in Thailand).

 

Actions:

  1. Understanding:
  • Community-based Seagrass and Dugong Conservation
  • Biodiversity research (eg marine and natural  resource species)
  • Cultural diversity – exchanges and outreach planning

 

  1. To actively rehabilitate and protect:
  • Restoration of Mangrove Forests, wetlands, waterways and key biodiversity and resource areas (example Sago Palm and endangered ecosystems)
  • Create/improve habitat for priority or threatened species and ecosystems
  • Assist and resource schools in identifying and implementing on-ground projects

 

  1. “Green English”:
  • Research Reports – prepared in English
  • Little Guide to Nature and field kit – prepared for students
  • Training delivered to selected teachers
  • Develop and adapt program for curriculum acceptance

 

Effective Dates:

Six month time units followed by project reviews – first period from October 1, 2006 to April 30th 2007.

 

Budget:

  1. Both partners will work within their own existing separate budgets for the initial 6 month time unit. Sharing the products and learnings and assisting each other.
  2. After the initial 6 month unit the partners will seek a combined budget and funding after preparing a Twinning project proposal for the ensuing time units.
