Latest on Twinning between the Gregory and Bulimba Creek…
The Gregory – Bulimba Creek history to date:
- A productive and positive professional relationship formed by Bulimba Creek Catchment Committee (B4C) and Southern Gulf Catchments (SGC) through liaison between Mr Mark Van Ryt, Wayne Cameron & B4C staff.
- A productive investigative tour of the Gregory hosted by Mr Van Ryt in
April 2007. It included
· Our participation in the inaugural Gregory River Landcare Group & B4C became foundations members.
· Formalized the cultural and “pen pal” exchange between Gregory Downs and Doomadgee Schools and schools in our part of Brisbane.
· Participation in Fishing clinic and cultural activities.
- A steady stream of researched classroom fact sheets from B4C to the Gregory Schools - including sharing materials used in our schools by volunteer presenters.
Future objectives: To target current issues important to SGC in the Gregory Catchment.
- Waste Management: Seeking solutions that are practical and economically and environmentally sustainable. Preparing a Schools recycling plan at present.
- Camping Management Plan: We must explore impediments and liaise with State Government to understand and seek to overcome Native Title concerns.
- Support and develop our catchment to school and school to school programs.
Promotion of the Gregory:
B4C will feature the Gregory and SGC in an oral paper presentation at the River Symposium in September 2007. It will also be featured in Confluence Group’s Twinning Workshop at the Symposium.
