A visit to our Twinning partners in the Gregory, May 2007 …
In May Claire Purcell & Luke Diet from our B4C office went to meet our twinning partners in the Gregory River. Here are the key outcomes of their visit:
v Participated in the inaugural meeting of the Gregory River Landcare Group, where B4C became foundation members
v Conducted a fishing clinic with students from the Gregory River Education Facility and students from the school of the air. In the afternoon exchanged pen pal letters (from Mt Petrie State School) and presented a PowerPoint on Bulimba Creek.
v Visited Doomadgee State School and met year 7 students who will be participating in our Twinning project. Presented a PowerPoint on Bulimba Creek.
v Met Southern Gulf Catchment staff & assisted in a display at the Gregory River Community Race Day.
v Consolidated our research assistance to Gregory Downs, Doomadgee and School of the Air students, setting up a constant flow of suitable research environmental and natural resource projects focusing on:
· Gregory River fish species – their habitat, food chain & the best way of managing the resource by caring for the waterway.
· How to catch species of fish – freshwater sawfish and barramundi – promoting recreational fishing and tourism
